I’m so glad I read today’s lesson by Nicole Dean on “Payment Options.” She confirmed exactly what I know to be true. I’m an active member of her very detailed and easy to follow membership at, www.NicoleDeanIncomeCPR.com .
Side Note: I had the pleasure of interviewing Nicole this week, check it out here.
Here’s what she had to say:

Payment Options:
The best option is usually to offer both paypal and credit card options for payment. I do not. I only offer paypal (except through the products that I sell on Clickbank.com) – for reasons we’ll get into in other lessons.
I would not normally recommend you only ever offer credit cards without also offering paypal. A lot of people are trying to cut back on debt or don’t like using their credit cards. I’m one of the people who usually won’t buy something (unless I need it) if I have to put it on my credit card.
Too Many Options:
Is the potential customer presented with one option or several? You may be confusing him/her by giving several options – if they aren’t explained clearly. [End Quote]
Paypal is the number one choice online when it comes to choosing a Merchant Account. Quite frankly, I don’t understand why small businesses take on the expense of setting up a merchant account with monthly quotas, monthly gateway fees and all the other unnecessary expense of having one!
With Paypal, there are no monthly gateway fees or monthly quotas. You are only charged when a transaction is made. (If you choose to use Paypal Pro – the fees are different).

Since I’ve been using Paypal since 2000, I’ve never encountered a problem too severe to handle. It’s all about COMMUNICATION. If you know you’re having a big launch, you should call them and let them know what’s going on. This way, they’ll be ready to see an influx of payments coming in and since you let them know — it won’t startle them. One of the most important reasons I like Paypal is because they understand Internet and Affiliate Marketing. Not all banks do therefore, sometimes it causes a problem like holding your funds for weeks, even months on end (for the fear of chargebacks)!
If your potential customers don’t understand Paypal, then it’s in your best interest to educate them on how the payment process works. You can set up a page PRIOR to the actual transaction – informing them of how the payment process works.
I’m not saying that by having your own merchant account is a bad thing — because it’s not, as a matter of fact, having both sometimes increases your ability to sell more — but, if you’re on a tight budget, why take on an expense when you don’t have to?
